Today G4S FMS will be starting a new contract providing their services to the City of London Police Force. This is the first contract secured under the new G4S brand as FMS expand on being the leading provider of medical and forensic services to police forces throughout England.
The City of London Police Force is the prestige Force in the UK, policing and securing the needs of the 'square mile' which is recognised as the world's leading business and financial centre. Protecting these businesses is clearly imperative for the UK, hence its separation and autonomy from the Met to deliver bespoke services against terrorism and fraud.
Essex Medical and Forensic services have been taken under the G4S brand as of 9th March 2009. We are now G4S Forensic and Medical Services (UK) Ltd. You will see the G4S logo replace the existing Essex Medical Branding throughout all areas and Uniforms are provided for our staff visiting custody. But no need to worry we’re still the same friendly staff as before we’ve just got a new name! Our email addresses for HQ staff have changed their format to firstname.surname@uk.g4s.com

March welcomed the opening of our new Call Centre and File Management Department making way for a new reception area and further development of the existing office space. The call centre boasts new carpets, daylight lighting, a new kitchen area and enhanced security for our 24 hour staff. The new file management office space is light and airy with new windows and double doors creating a brighter working environment.
EMFS have provided further assistance to the MPA throughout February and March. Clinicians from within our medical teams are extending their services to continue much needed medical support for custodies across London. We have had great feedback from the force for our continued efforts and would like to thank all that have helped make the temporary cover a great success.
EMFS are assisting the MPA with the temporary provision of medical examiners across areas currently experiencing difficulties. EMFS are proud of having an exceptional clinical governance structure and the operational expertise and ability to offer the MPA support where required.
Due to the recent expansion of HQ staff EMFS are set to expand HQ offices. EMFS are moving into unit 9 of The Bardfield Centre to accommodate departmental expansion. The call centre is being upgraded and relocated to an enclosed purpose built call centre, with specialised lighting and flooring. The new offices are due to be renovated, with large windows and double doors to allow natural light and there are plans for new staff facilities and a fire-proof storage room. Building work is scheduled to begin by the New Year.
EMFS continue development training for all our medical staff across all 8 counties, over 40 training opportunities are available a year. We have had the pleasure to welcome guest speakers including Professor Ian Wall of the Faculty and Alison Fendley of the FSS. EMFS are proud to support their staff as they develop their skill sets and progress through our in-house accreditation scheme.

The Hampshire contract, which commences today, is the third county that EMFS provide health care for in the south west. As a result EMFS are pleased to announce that Paul Jennings has been appointed as Regional Manager, he will oversee operations in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Hampshire. Paul Jennings was a career Detective for Wiltshire Constabulary for 30 years, ending his career as Detective Inspector. With him he brings to the company his experience and understanding of the needs of police forces with regards to health care provision. As Regional Manager he will liaise with both police custodies and senior management to ensure the smooth running of operations and is a valuable addition to the EMFS team.
In line with securing a 2 year contract for Hampshire constabulary and our continual expansion EMFS have taken on a 50% increase in Call Centre staff based at HQ. This is the largest recruitment drive of its kind for EMFS seeing further additions across all our departments including Rotas and File Management.
Today EMFS are pleased to commence the provision of temporary health care to Lincolnshire Constabulary. EMFS provided temporary cover for Lincolnshire earlier this year and have been contracted to provide cover for a second time. This proves the ability of EMFS to provide reliable and high quality care for detainees.
EMFS have succeeded in securing a new contract; being appointed the new health care providers for Hampshire police. This three year contract is to commence October 2008. EMFS are now providing detainee health care for three counties in the South-West. EMFS continue to expand and supply first rate medical care through their multi-disciplinary teams for police forces throughout the UK.
The EMFS workforce was able to react at short notice and provide medical and forensic services for West Mercia. EMFS have again proven their ability to nationally mobilise their skilled multi-disciplinary team to provide an excellent standard of health care cover to Police Forces.

GSL are involved in supporting frontline policing and are currently responsible for the management of police custody suites in Gloucestershire and Norfolk, as well as Lancashire Cheshire and Staffordshire and have provided the Home Office with justice services including care in custody and court services for over 14 years.
Today EMFS can announce that they have secured the full contract for Norfolk Constabulary. This 2 year contract will commence from the 1st November, continuing from their temporary contract position now. This is another great achievement for Essex Medical and wouldn't have been possible without the support and dedication of all our staff who have helped provide cover to Norfolk so far.
Further East Anglian coverage will benefit the Police and Public, and allow EMFS to continue to help develop first class services to Norfolk Police.
EMFS today secured a temporary contract with Norfolk Constabulary to provide the entire medical and forensic service until the end of the previous contract date, 31st October 2007, after providing an impressive temporary weekend service.
Essex Medical and Forensic Services Ltd. have shown their ability to mobilise a task force of Forensic Medical Examiners and Health Care Professionals by providing full emergency cover for the county of Norfolk with only several hours notice.
After providing an excellent standard of health care to Wiltshire Constabulary during a temporary contract, EMFS are pleased to announce that this has led to the signing of a six year contract with Wiltshire Constabulary. EMFS also continues to be the health care providers for Gloucestershire Constabulary. This secures EMFS as providers of detainee health care in the West of England.

EMFS today awarded their first Level 3 certifications to over 20 of the most experienced HCPs throughout Essex, Suffolk and Bedfordshire. This development certified by the Association of Forensic Physicians, was carried out by the Forensic Science Service, Essex Police and EMFS and now authorises HCPs to carry out higher levels of medical and forensic care in custodies.
"We are now responsible for all Cambridgeshire custodies as from 1st April 2006" said Dr Cutts, MD EMFS. "We will be able to offer a full service to Cambridgeshire Police which utilises the excellent service provided by existing Forensic Medical Examiners backed up by EMFS Healthcare Professionals".Dr Cutts went on to say "We now serve a large area of East Anglia with the possibility of more forces taking our services and we aim to develop our services further to continue to offer our customers a Gold Standard Service."
"We are delighted to start work in Cambridgeshire as back up to local FMEs" said EMFS MD Adam Cutts. "Our flexible approach has enabled us to provide Cambridge with a continuity of service where and when they need it. This brings up the total of custodies we are responsible for to 25 as we move into our second year of operation."
EMFS have been selected by Microsoft and it’s business partner Aspective to be one of only a handful of companies across Europe to showcase the latest version of Microsoft Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System.
“The system is core to the input and retrieval of custody care information which is the engine of our information systems” said Business Director Steve Roberts “By selecting us it shows that Microsoft recognise us as a key customer for their systems and have provided us with all the extra features of the new system ahead of its planned launch. This has largely been down to the innovative way we have integrated our systems to provide police with detailed information on the service we provide including response times and breakdown of request types by custody”

EMFS was nominated for "Spirit of Enterprise Award" at the recent Essex in Boom business Awards. This category is to recognise companies who have encouraged and supported young people in business."This is great recognition of the two students we had working for us in the summer. Gary Green and Adam Ixer helped put together the processes and procedures to start our accreditation for ISO 9001" said EMFS MD, Adam Cutts" Gary went onto to win an award as part of the Shell Technology and Enterprise Programme (STEP) and shows our commitment to quality throughout the organisation.
EMFS sponsored two under graduates, Adam Ixer and Gary Green as part of the Shell Technology and Enterprise Programme (STEP). Both students have been instrumental in establishing a framework for our procedures to ensure we comply to ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. Adam and Gary presented to a panel of judges from different industries resulting in Gary receiving first prize for the Quality Standards category."This represents a major achievement considering the short time Gary and Adam have worked with us. We now have the framework to achieve ISO accreditation and this has been accelerated by the hard work of the students. We will continue to use the STEP Programme and encourage work experience from bright students in the future" said Steve Roberts, Business Director, EMFS.
EMFS announce the launch of their Professional Development Framework at the monthly education meeting with Doctors and Healthcare Professionals at Hintlesham Hall, Suffolk. Education provided by EMFS is approved by the Association of Forensic Physicians and counts towards Continuous Medical Education for its members.EMFS also awarded the first Level Two authorization for medical and forensic care for EMFS HCP Manager, Steve Tait. Steve has clocked up over 200 custody care examinations and is now authorized to carry out more complex medical and forensic care following Home Office guidelines. "Many more paramedics and nurses will also receive their Level Two authorization soon," said Dr Cutts, Medical Director, EMFS
Essex Police launched an action week which resulted in a 50% increase in arrests. The week was extended for a further two weeks and EMFS rose to the occasion by putting on extra shifts to cope with the demand. "EMFS coped with this project exceedingly well" said Chief Inspector Macintosh, Essex Police. "They were able to demonstrate their flexibility of operation without serious decline in response times"
The new contact centre integrates lines from BT Local Business, a telephone system from Avaya, call recording from Weston Technologies and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) from Microsoft. "All our systems are from world class vendors and their implementation partners". said Steve Roberts, Business Director, EMFS. "We have a solution that will envy companies much larger than us and provides finger tip management information to support the company and the police".
